WhatsApp May Hide Block Status Soon

WhatsApp is working on a new privacy feature that could make it much harder to find out if someone has blocked you. The feature is currently being tested and is not yet available for all users.

According to reports, some tech experts had discovered methods that could help users guess whether they had been blocked by someone.

Now, WhatsApp is reportedly taking steps to close these loopholes and make the blocking feature more private.

WhatsApp Working on Stronger Privacy Protection

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing changes to its encryption system to better protect users’ privacy.

The aim is to prevent users, researchers, or third-party methods from determining whether a person has blocked them.

If the update is rolled out, some of the techniques previously used to detect a block may stop working completely.

At present, this feature remains in the testing phase, and WhatsApp has not announced when it will be available to all users.

What Will Change for WhatsApp Users?

For now, regular WhatsApp users will not notice any changes. Features such as chatting, voice and video calls, status updates, and messaging will continue to work as usual.

If WhatsApp launches this feature globally, the main change will be that users may no longer be able to confirm whether someone has blocked them.

According to WhatsApp, blocking is a personal choice, and that information should remain private.

Can You Currently Tell If Someone Has Blocked You?

Even today, WhatsApp does not send any official notification when someone blocks you.

Some common signs that users often rely on include:

The person’s profile photo is no longer visible

Last Seen or online status disappears

Messages show only one tick

Calls fail to connect

However, WhatsApp has always maintained that none of these signs can confirm with 100% certainty that you have been blocked.

If the new privacy update is introduced, even technical methods used to estimate a block status may become ineffective.

WhatsApp’s Focus on Privacy Continues

Over the past few years, WhatsApp has introduced several privacy-focused features, including Chat Lock, Secret Code, Privacy Checkup, and Advanced Privacy settings.

With this latest test, the company appears to be taking another step toward making users’ personal decisions and account activity even more private.
