Heavy Rainfall expected in many States till May 15

While many parts of India continue to face extreme heat and heatwave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now predicted a major change in weather.

The weather department has issued alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several states between May 10 and May 15.

States including Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Chandigarh, and Delhi-NCR are expected to receive rain during the coming days.

The changing weather could bring temporary relief to people struggling with rising temperatures

Delhi-NCR Likely to Get Relief from Heat

According to the IMD, Delhi-NCR may witness light rain along with thunderstorms and strong winds on May 11 and 12. Wind speeds could reach up to 50-60 kmph.

The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain between 37°C and 39°C initially, but cloudy weather and rainfall may slightly reduce temperatures later in the week.

A yellow alert has also been issued for the national capital.

Heavy Rain Expected in North and South India

Northwestern states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms starting May 10.

At the same time, several southern states are also expected to receive intense rainfall from May 11 onwards. These include:

Kerala

Tamil Nadu

Puducherry

Karaikal

Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Rayalaseema

The IMD has also warned of very heavy rainfall in Lakshadweep and parts of Andhra Pradesh on May 14 and 15

Heatwave Conditions to Continue in Some Regions

Even though rain is expected in many states, severe heat is likely to continue in parts of western and central India.

The IMD said:

Heatwave conditions may continue in Rajasthan and Gujarat till May 15

Severe heatwave conditions are possible in eastern Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on May 12 and 13

Temperatures in northwest and central India are also expected to rise further by 2°C to 5°C over the next few days.

Thunderstorms and Strong Winds in Eastern India

Eastern states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are likely to witness rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds between May 10 and 15.

Some areas may also experience wind speeds of up to 70 kmph during thunderstorms.

Odisha, in particular, has been placed under close watch due to unstable atmospheric conditions expected across the state.

Northeast India May Receive Very Heavy Rainfall

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall activity across Northeast India over the next week.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in:

Assam and Meghalaya

Arunachal Pradesh

Nagaland

Manipur

Mizoram

Tripura

Assam and Meghalaya may witness extremely heavy rainfall on May 14 and 15.

Weather Activity to Increase Across the Country

Rainfall and thunderstorm activity are also expected in:

Chhattisgarh

Maharashtra

Uttarakhand

Jammu & Kashmir

Himachal Pradesh

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim

Strong winds, lightning, and isolated hailstorms may also occur in some northern hill states.

The IMD has advised people to stay updated with local weather warnings and take precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
