There’s important news for vehicle owners and anyone planning to get a driving licence in Delhi.
After being shut down during the COVID-19 period, many RTO offices are now set to reopen.
The Delhi Transport Department is planning a major upgrade to make services faster and more accessible for the public.
RTO Offices Coming Back to Your Area
As part of a new plan, 13 RTO offices will be opened across different districts in Delhi.
Right now, only a few offices are working fully. Because of this, people often have to travel long distances for simple tasks.
But once the new system is in place, you’ll be able to visit an RTO in your own district, saving both time and effort.
This move is aimed at making services more convenient and reducing crowding at a few locations.
Online Services Stay, But Physical Offices Return
Over the past few years, nearly 90% of transport services have gone online.
This includes:
Learning licence applications
Driving licence renewals
Duplicate licences
Vehicle ownership transfers
Even though online services are helpful, some work still needs physical verification or document checks.
That’s why reopening RTO offices is important—it brings back the human touch where needed, while keeping digital ease.
DL-13 Series Makes a Comeback
Another big change is in vehicle registration numbers.
The DL-13 series, which was stopped earlier, will now be reintroduced.
At the same time, the currently used DL-14 series will be discontinued.
This step is expected to simplify and organize the registration system across the city.
New RTO Locations Across Delhi
The new RTO offices will be spread across multiple areas, including:
Mall Road
Jam Nagar House
Lado Sarai
Hari Nagar
Loni
Sarai Kale Khan
Mayur Vihar
Wazirpur
Dwarka
Raja Garden
Rohini
Burari
With offices in different districts, residents will be able to access services closer to home.
When Will These Services Start?
Work is already in progress to set up these offices.
The department is currently finalizing infrastructure, staff, and technical systems.
Once everything is ready, an official timeline will be announced.
In short, this move will make RTO services in Delhi more local, faster, and easier to access, while still keeping the benefits of online systems.
