The government has made important changes to the PM E-DRIVE scheme to make it easier and more useful for people.

This scheme promotes electric vehicles (EVs) by offering subsidies and improving infrastructure.

With the latest update, buyers now have more time to take advantage of these benefits.

Extended Deadlines and Bigger Targets

Under the revised rules:

Subsidy for electric two-wheelers is now available till July 31, 2026

Benefits for e-rickshaws and e-carts are extended till March 31, 2028

The government has also increased targets:

Electric two-wheelers: 24.8 lakh units (earlier 14 lakh)

E-rickshaws and carts: over 39,000 units

However, if funds under the scheme run out early, the benefits may stop before the deadline.

What is the PM E-DRIVE Scheme?

The PM E-DRIVE scheme aims to boost the use of electric vehicles across India. It focuses on:

Making EVs more affordable through subsidies

Expanding charging infrastructure

Supporting EV manufacturing

The goal is to reduce pollution, improve fuel security, and promote cleaner transport options.

Who Can Get the Benefits?

The scheme covers a wide range of electric vehicles, including:

Electric two-wheelers (e-bikes, scooters)

Electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaws, carts)

E-buses, ambulances, and trucks

However, vehicles bought by government departments are not eligible. The benefits are mainly for private buyers and businesses.

There are also limits:

Around 24.79 lakh e-two wheelers

About 39,000 e-rickshaws and carts

Price Limits for Subsidy

To qualify for incentives:

Electric two-wheelers must cost up to Rs 1.5 lakh

Electric three-wheelers must cost up to Rs 2.5 lakh

Vehicles priced above these limits will not get any subsidy.

How You Get the Subsidy

The process is simple and mostly handled by dealers and manufacturers:

The dealer generates an e-voucher during vehicle registration

The buyer completes Aadhaar verification

The buyer signs the e-voucher

The dealer uploads it on the portal

The subsidy is adjusted in the vehicle price itself

This means you pay a lower price directly at the time of purchase.

Why This Scheme Matters

The PM E-DRIVE scheme helps:

Make EVs cheaper for buyers

Encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles

Support cleaner and greener transport

Reduce dependence on fuel

It also boosts public transport by supporting electric buses and commercial vehicles.

What You Should Know

This updated scheme gives buyers more time and better opportunities to switch to electric vehicles.

If you are planning to buy an EV, checking eligibility and price limits can help you save money through subsidies.

Summary:

The government has extended the PM E-DRIVE scheme, increasing targets and deadlines for EV subsidies.

The scheme aims to make electric vehicles more affordable, promote clean mobility, and support large-scale EV adoption across India.
