YouTube has upgraded its Premium Lite subscription to make it more appealing for users.

This version offers fewer benefits than the full Premium plan, but now comes with key features at a lower price, addressing feedback from users who wanted more reasons to subscribe.

Initially launched in May 2025, Premium Lite has now expanded to India, offering a budget-friendly alternative for those who want an ad-free viewing experience without paying for full Premium.

What’s New in Premium Lite

The updated Premium Lite plan now lets users download videos and watch offline, a feature previously missing from the Lite package.

However, there are still some limits:

Ads are removed only from non-music videos, excluding Shorts.

Ads may still appear while searching or browsing content.

Music and music videos are not ad-free, and features like background playback and queueing music are not included.

Despite these limitations, the plan allows ad-free viewing on phones, laptops, and TVs at a much lower cost than the full Premium membership.

Pricing and Accessibility

In India, YouTube Premium Lite costs ₹89 per month, which is ₹60 less than the standard Premium subscription.

Subscribers can enjoy videos without ads on eligible content, and the plan is billed monthly, offering flexibility without a long-term commitment.

YouTube is also encouraging more users to pay for its services by restricting features like background playback that were previously accessible via third-party browsers.

Some browsers, like Brave, have found workarounds, but YouTube aims to make Premium Lite the main way to enjoy ad-free content legally.
