Artificial intelligence company Perplexity AI has introduced a new tool called Perplexity Computer, designed to go beyond traditional chatbots.
Unlike normal AI assistants that only answer questions, this system can complete entire tasks from start to finish with minimal human help.
CEO Aravind Srinivas described it as a major step forward.
The goal is to create an AI that can think through complex work and deliver final results, rather than just responding to prompts.
How It’s Different from Other AI Chatbots
Most AI chatbots today simply answer questions. Perplexity Computer can handle bigger goals, like building an app, researching a topic, or managing projects.
Here’s how it works:
The AI breaks a broad goal into smaller steps.
Each step is handled by a specialized AI model – one for research, another for coding, and another for writing or data analysis.
Once all steps are complete, the system combines them into a finished output.
This approach allows the AI to manage longer, more detailed tasks without the user giving constant instructions.
Built on Multiple AI Models
A key feature of Perplexity Computer is its multi-model system. Instead of relying on a single AI, it uses several specialized models working together, choosing the best one for each task.
This makes the system more accurate and efficient, as each model handles tasks it is best suited for, rather than forcing one AI to do everything.
Who Can Use Perplexity Computer?
Currently, Perplexity Computer is available to users on the higher-tier subscription plan, with pricing based on usage credits.
The company may expand access to more users in the future.
The launch positions Perplexity AI as a strong competitor in the growing field of “AI agents” – systems that can complete tasks independently, not just chat.
