Mumbai Airport to Shut for 6 hours on November 20

From 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, no flights will take off or land as the airport undergoes its annual post-monsoon maintenance.

Why Does Mumbai Airport Need Post-Monsoon Maintenance?

Every year after the monsoon, the airport carries out a detailed inspection of the runways and other technical systems.

This includes checking the surface quality of the runway, drainage systems, lighting, markings, and overall strength.

According to MIAL, these checks are necessary to meet global aviation safety standards.

The maintenance helps ensure that the runways can handle heavy flight operations safely throughout the year.

To perform this work efficiently, a temporary shutdown becomes unavoidable.

Both Runways to Shut, NOTAM Issued

Mumbai Airport has two runways—09/27 (main) and 14/32 (secondary).

Together, they handle nearly 950 flights every day, making CSMIA one of India’s busiest airports.

On November 20, both runways will be closed at the same time, and airlines have already planned rescheduling to reduce impact.

A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has also been issued.

This notice informs pilots and airline staff about temporary changes so they can revise schedules and manage operations smoothly.

What Maintenance Work Will Be Done?

The six-hour inspection will include:

Runway surface repairs

Drainage system checks

Lighting and marking inspections

Technical assessments

Safety testing

The airport says these steps are essential to keep operations safe and ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers.

What Should Passengers Do?

Passengers traveling to or from Mumbai on November 20 should stay updated with their airline’s latest schedule.

Most flights will be shifted to before or after the six-hour closure.

It is recommended to check messages and notifications regularly for any changes.
