The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for filing the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) for the wage month of September 2025.

According to the Ministry of Labour & Employment, this extension was given after several employers reported challenges in adapting to the newly revamped ECR system and faced technical issues while filing returns.

What Is the Revamped ECR System?

EPFO recently introduced a revamped ECR system starting from September 2025.

This upgraded platform aims to make the return filing process simpler, faster, and more user-friendly for employers through the EPFO’s online portal.

EPFO’s Nationwide Outreach to Employers

At the national level, EPFO has collaborated with leading industry associations such as FICCI, PHDCCI, and the Employers’ Federation of India (EFI).

These meetings focused on explaining the new system’s key features—like better data accuracy, step-by-step return validation, and improved compliance tracking.

Additionally, EPFO’s Zonal and Regional Offices are holding workshops and interactive sessions with employers.

These programs offer direct support to establishments to ensure timely and error-free return filing under the new system.

The extended deadline is expected to help employers adjust comfortably to the new system while maintaining compliance with EPFO norms.
