This Diwali will be special for millions of women in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government has announced a big festive gift for women registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Under the UP Free Gas Cylinder Scheme, all eligible women beneficiaries will receive a free LPG gas cylinder this festival season.
Ujjwala consumers get one free refilled cylinder on both Diwali and Holi every year. For 2025, the Diwali distribution process has already started in October.
What Is the UP Free Gas Cylinder Scheme?
This scheme is meant for women enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Under it, the government provides one free LPG cylinder to eligible women during festivals.
However, consumers must first pay the cylinder’s cost to the gas agency. Later, the same amount is transferred back to their bank accounts as a subsidy, meaning they get a full refund for the cylinder.
Complete e-KYC to Receive Benefits
To get the benefit of this scheme, consumers must complete e-KYC. Women can do this online by visiting the Ujjwala Yojana website and choosing their gas company—Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas.
If someone doesn’t have internet access, they can visit their nearest gas agency to complete e-KYC. Delayed or incomplete e-KYC can postpone the subsidy payment.
Who Can Apply for the Scheme
Women who are not yet registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana can still apply.
New applicants will receive a free gas connection, regulator, pipe, and the first filled cylinder.
They will also get a ₹300 subsidy per cylinder, for up to nine cylinders each year.
This scheme is open to women aged 18 years or older who belong to SC, ST, BPL families, Extremely Backward Classes, or are beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural)
and Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Women from families listed under the 14-point poverty line are also eligible.
