and Microsoft-backed OpenAI, has announced an AI-powered payment system on ChatGPT.

Currently in a pilot phase, this system will allow users to make purchases using India’s homegrown Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

As part of the trial, Axis Bank and Airtel Payments Bank are the banking partners.

This project could be a landmark in connecting conversational AI and financial technology, not just in India but worldwide.”

UPI Lite Payments Through Smart Glasses

NPCI has also introduced other innovative UPI features recently.

One example is UPI Lite payments through wearable smart glasses. Users can make payments by scanning a QR code and giving a voice command, without needing a mobile phone or PIN.

UPI Lite is designed for small, recurring payments and works with minimal reliance on the traditional banking system.

NPCI says this is the first time UPI has been extended to wearables and sees it as a major step toward “seamless, ambient payments.”
