Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the first Amrit Bharat Express, connecting Berhampur in Odisha with Udhna in Gujarat.
This long-awaited train service fulfills a decades-old demand from migrant workers and improves connectivity between eastern and western India.
A Big Relief for Migrant Workers
Around 8-10 lakh people from Ganjam work in Gujarat’s textile and diamond industries.
Earlier, traveling between these states required multiple train changes, making journeys long and tiring.
The new train offers a direct connection, making travel faster, simpler, and more convenient for workers and their families.
Improved Connectivity Across States
The train will run weekly — departing Udhna on Sundays and Berhampur on Mondays.
Along the route, it passes through Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, benefiting passengers from districts like Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Nuapada.
Modern Facilities and Affordable Travel
The Amrit Bharat Express features 22 modern LHB coaches with better seating and amenities.
It includes second-class and sleeper options, making it ideal for middle-class travelers.
The service also offers affordable long-distance travel while cutting down travel time.
Boosting Regional Growth
Beyond convenience, the train is expected to promote regional development, strengthen economic ties, and improve mobility across states.
It marks a significant step in enhancing India’s railway infrastructure and connecting people efficiently.
