What Indians must know about UAE’s new Visa rules

The United Arab Emirates has introduced new visa and residency rules to attract foreign talent and boost sectors like tourism, technology, and entertainment.

Since the UAE is a popular destination for Indians, these changes will have a direct impact on them.

According to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship and Emigration (ICA), these updates aim to improve quality of life while promoting business and economic growth.

The changes are based on extensive studies and feedback from both residents and international stakeholders.

New Visitor Visa Categories

The UAE has launched four new types of visitor visas:

AI Specialist Visa – Issued for a fixed period (single or multiple entry) based on a letter from the sponsoring company.

Entertainment Visa – For foreigners visiting temporarily for leisure purposes.

Event Visa – For those attending festivals, conferences, exhibitions, sports, educational or cultural events.

Cruise Tourism Visa – A multiple-entry visa for tourists arriving on cruise ships, issued under a licensed host company.

Residency Permit Options

Humanitarian Residency Permit – For individuals from countries affected by war, natural disasters, or unrest.

Valid for one year and renewable.

Residency for Widows and Divorced Individuals – Foreigners can apply within six months of their spouse’s death or divorce, subject to conditions.

Residency for Relatives and Friends – UAE residents can sponsor visas for relatives or friends up to the third degree of kinship, based on income eligibility.

Business and Labor Visas

Business Exploration Visa – For individuals engaged in business activities.

Applicants must show proof of financial capacity, ownership of shares in a foreign company, or evidence of business practice.

Truck Driver Visa – Allows foreign truck drivers to work in the UAE for one or more trips.

A licensed freight/transport company must sponsor the visa.

Health insurance and a financial guarantee are required.

In short, the UAE’s new visa system introduces more flexible options for visitors, workers, and residents, while also supporting its long-term economic and social goals.
