India Post announces New Features and Tariffs for Inland Speed Post

The Indian Postal Department (India Post) has announced new features for Inland Speed Post, effective from 1st October 2025, along with revised tariffs.

Under the new tariff structure, sending a document via Speed Post (up to 50 grams) anywhere in the country from a local area will cost ₹47.

The rates increase with distance and weight. For example, sending a document or book weighing more than 50 grams but less than 250 grams from Delhi to Mumbai (approximately 1400 km) will cost ₹72.

The Speed Post service was introduced as part of India Post’s modernization efforts, designed to ensure fast, efficient, and secure delivery.

The Ministry of Communications said these features aim to enhance reliability, security, and customer convenience.

The Ministry added that Speed Post continuously evolves to meet changing customer needs,

and these upgrades further strengthen its position as a preferred delivery service in India.

Transparent Rates and Legacy

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared on social media that, starting 1st October 2025, Speed Post will offer OTP-based delivery, optional registration, and transparent rates with GST shown separately.

He highlighted that India Post, with its 167-year legacy, continues to deliver fast and reliable service to every household.

Speed Post was first launched on 1st August 1986 to ensure fast and trustworthy delivery of letters and parcels across India.
