EPFO Launches Passbook Lite to Easily Check PF Balance — How to Use It?

EPFO: Every month, a portion of your salary goes into your Provident Fund (PF), but many employees don’t receive updates or find it hard to check their PF balance.

That’s about to change. EPFO has introduced a new feature called Passbook Lite, which allows members to check their PF details easily from the official portal, without needing a separate login.

Earlier, users had to log in to a separate Passbook portal to view their balance or transaction details. Now, with Passbook Lite, that hassle is gone.

What is Passbook Lite?

With this new feature, employees can now directly view details like their PF contributions, withdrawals, and total balance on the member portal.

The feature was officially launched by Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who said that this update will not only make life easier for PF members but also reduce traffic on the existing passbook system.

Why Was This Feature Needed?

Many users faced problems while checking their PF balance due to technical or network issues.

The new lightweight version solves this by making access quicker and smoother, helping millions of users get their PF information without delays or log-in problems.

Now Transfer Certificates Are Also Available Online

When employees switch jobs, their PF account is transferred from the old employer to the new one.

Earlier, a document called Annexure K—which confirms the PF transfer—was only shared between offices, and members had to request it separately.

With the latest update, members can now download the Annexure K directly from the member portal in PDF format.

This makes the entire PF transfer process transparent, allowing members to track the status of their transfer and check if their balance and service period have been updated correctly.

Around 80 million EPFO members will benefit
