UP Government Launches Atal Scholarship for Higher Studies in the UK

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new international scholarship called the Chevening UP Atal Scholarship, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

This scholarship offers talented students from UP a chance to pursue their master’s degrees in the United Kingdom with full financial support.

The scholarship is for students with excellent academic records. It covers almost all expenses including tuition fees, exam charges, accommodation, food, and yearly travel between India and the UK.

The estimated cost per student is around Rs 45-48 lakh. In the first phase, five students have been selected to study in England.

This initiative is a partnership between the Uttar Pradesh government and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The agreement was signed at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in Lucknow. CM Yogi said the scholarship will prepare UP youth for leadership roles globally. The scheme will run for three years initially.

The UP government will fund half the cost, while the FCDO will cover the other half. British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron praised the collaboration as a boost to educational ties.

Eligibility and Benefits

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree and apply to at least three recognised UK master’s programmes.

They need an unconditional offer from at least one course to qualify.

The scholarship covers university fees, monthly stipend, travel allowance, visa costs, and grants for attending Chevening events in the UK.

The scholarship aims to provide global opportunities for talented students from Uttar Pradesh and help nurture future leaders.
