Do You Have These HDFC Bank Credit Cards? Important Rule Changes from July 1

HDFC Bank Update: If you use an HDFC Bank credit card, it’s important to know about the new rules coming into effect from July 1, 2025.

The bank is changing many policies related to spending on online gaming, wallet loading, utility bills, rent, fuel, education payments, and reward points. Here’s what’s changing.

No Change for These Cards

There will be no change in rules for the following credit cards:

Millennia

Paytm

Easy EMI

Also, Marriott Bonvoy cardholders will continue to get unlimited reward points.

1. New Charges on Online Gaming

If you spend over ₹10,000/month on gaming platforms like Dream11 or MPL, a 1% charge will now apply.

Maximum monthly charge: ₹4,999

No reward points will be given on this spending.

2. Wallet Loading Gets Costlier

Loading money into wallets like Paytm or Mobikwik via credit card will now have a 1% charge if the amount exceeds ₹10,000/month.

Maximum monthly charge: ₹4,999

No reward points will be awarded on this spending.

3. Higher Charges on Utility Bill Payments

A 1% fee on utility bill payments above ₹50,000 will still apply, but the maximum charge is now increased:

Old limit: ₹3,000

New limit: ₹4,999

Note: Insurance payments remain exempt from this charge.

4. Rent Payment Charges Continue

A 1% fee will continue to apply on rent payments made through credit cards. But the cap on a single transaction has increased:

Old cap: ₹3,000

New cap: ₹4,999

5. Fuel Surcharge Cap Raised

A 1% surcharge applies on fuel expenses above ₹15,000.

Old limit: ₹3,000

New limit: ₹4,999

6. Education Payments Now Attract Charges

If you make education payments through third-party platforms, a 1% charge will apply:

Maximum monthly charge: ₹4,999

However, if the payment is made directly to an educational institution, there is no charge.

7. New Reward Points Limit on Insurance Payments

Reward points on insurance payments will now be calculated monthly instead of daily. New monthly limits:

Infinia / Infinia Metal: 10,000 points/month (previously 5,000/day)

Diners Black / Biz Black Metal: 5,000 points/month

All Other Cards: 2,000 points/month.
