New Delhi:
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, has announced a significant relief for millions of LPG cylinder users.
He emphasized that there is no deadline for completing eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) for LPG cylinders.
This initiative aims to curb fake accounts and prevent fraudulent bookings of commercial cylinders by oil marketing companies.
Implementation and Purpose of eKYC
Responding to a letter from VD Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly, Puri addressed concerns about inconvenience caused at gas agencies.
He clarified that the eKYC process, ongoing for over eight months, aims to ensure that only legitimate consumers receive LPG cylinders.
How eKYC Works
During LPG cylinder delivery, delivery personnel verify customer credentials using a mobile app. Aadhaar details are captured, and customers receive an OTP (One-Time Password) to complete the verification.
Customers can also visit distributor showrooms for convenience.
Self-Service Option
Additionally, LPG consumers can independently complete eKYC by downloading apps from companies like IOC and HPCL.
Puri assured that oil companies are issuing press releases to reassure customers, ensuring a hassle-free experience for genuine consumers.
