YouTube TV Subscription Price to Increase

YouTube TV subscribers will soon need to pay more for their monthly plans.

The company has announced an increase in the base plan price by $10 (around Rs 850), citing higher content costs and other investments.

Starting January, the base plan will cost $82.99 (around Rs 7,042) per month. This price hike applies to both existing subscribers and new customers signing up.

However, those using YouTube TV under a special promotional plan will not be affected by this increase.

Company’s Statement on the Price Hike

YouTube stated that the decision was made after careful consideration and acknowledged its impact on customers.

Over the years, the price of YouTube TV has risen multiple times. When it launched in 2017, the service cost $35 (around Rs 2,970) per month.

By 2019, the price had risen to $50 (around Rs 4,242). Last year, the company increased it to $72.99 (around Rs 6,194) per month.

Rising Costs and Industry Trends

In the past, YouTube TV added new channels when increasing its prices.

However, this is no longer the case due to ongoing licensing disputes and higher operational costs. These challenges have contributed to the price hike.

Other streaming platforms like Netflix, Apple TV, and Disney have also raised their subscription prices recently.

Many have introduced new features, such as password sharing limits, to expand their user base while managing increasing costs.
