West Bengal government employees have received a major boost as the state government has announced a significant increase in Dearness Allowance (DA).

While presenting the West Bengal Budget 2026, Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced that DA for state government employees will be increased from 18% to 38%.

The revised DA will come into effect from October 1, giving lakhs of employees a substantial increase in their salary benefits.

First Full Budget of the New BJP Government

This is the first full budget presented by the BJP government after coming to power in West Bengal.

Earlier this year, an interim budget was presented because the state was preparing for Assembly elections.

The full budget could not be introduced at that time due to the election schedule.

After the election results were announced in May and the new government took charge, the administration has now presented its first complete budget, which includes several important announcements for employees and citizens.

What Does the DA Hike Mean for Employees?

Dearness Allowance is a benefit provided to government employees to help offset the impact of inflation and rising living costs.

With the DA rate increasing from 18% to 38%, employees will see a significant rise in the allowance component of their salaries.

The increase is expected to benefit a large number of state government employees and improve their financial position amid rising expenses.

How Does It Compare With Central Government DA?

Earlier this year, the Central Government also increased Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief by 2%.

Following that revision, central government employees and pensioners became eligible for 60% DA and DR.

The Centre’s decision benefited around 50 lakh employees and more than 68 lakh pensioners across the country.

The DA revision was made based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission and the approved formula used to calculate inflation-linked benefits.

7th Pay Commission to Be Implemented in West Bengal

Apart from the DA hike, the state government has also announced another major decision for employees.

In May, the government approved the formation of the 7th Pay Commission for West Bengal government employees.

The move is expected to pave the way for future salary revisions and improved pay structures for state workers.

Employees have been awaiting updates on pay commission implementation for a long time, making this announcement particularly significant.

Other Major Announcement: Annapurna Scheme

The government has also moved forward with the Annapurna Scheme, another key promise made after coming to power.

Under the scheme, eligible women are being provided financial assistance of ₹3,000 per month.

The benefit became effective from June 1 and is aimed at supporting women financially and improving household income.

A Big Budget Boost for State Employees

The sharp increase in Dearness Allowance and the decision to implement the 7th Pay Commission signal the government’s focus on employee welfare.

For thousands of state government workers, the DA hike from 18% to 38% will bring noticeable relief from rising living costs.

With the new rate becoming effective from October 1, employees can expect improved salary benefits in the coming months.
