Former U.S. President Donald Trump has asked major tech companies like Google and Microsoft to stop hiring workers from overseas, including India.
Speaking at an AI Summit in Washington on Wednesday, Trump urged American companies to create more jobs at home instead of building factories in China or outsourcing tech jobs to Indian workers.
Criticism of the Tech Industry’s Global Approach
During the event, Trump criticized what he called the tech industry’s “globalist mindset.” He said this approach has left many Americans behind, even though tech companies have made big profits in the U.S.
“Many of our top tech firms have benefited from American freedom while building in China, hiring in India, and hiding profits in Ireland,” Trump said. “Those days are over under President Trump.”
He also claimed that some companies have ignored or censored Americans while investing heavily overseas.
A Call for Patriotism in Tech
Trump said winning the race in artificial intelligence (AI) requires a strong sense of patriotism. “We need U.S. tech companies to be all in for America,” he said. “Put America first. That’s all we ask.”
Three New Exec
utive Orders on AI
At the same summit, Trump signed three new executive orders focused on boosting AI in the U.S.:
National AI Strategy – “Winning the Race”:
This plan aims to make the U.S. a global leader in AI. It includes faster construction of data centers and fewer restrictions on building AI infrastructure.AI Political Neutrality for Federally Funded Projects:
Any company receiving federal money to build AI systems must now make sure their tools are politically neutral.Trump said his administration rejects “woke” AI models and blamed past diversity and inclusion policies for slowing down progress.
“We are getting rid of woke,” he said. AI tools, especially those used by the government, must now be accurate and free of political bias.
Support for American AI Exports:
The third order helps promote U.S.-made AI tools globally. It supports full development of AI in America and encourages exports of these technologies.
AI: “Not Artificial, It’s Genius”
Trump also expressed dislike for the term “artificial intelligence”, saying it doesn’t reflect the real power of the technology. “It’s not artificial, it’s genius,” he said.
Impact on Indian Tech Professionals
While these new changes may not affect jobs immediately, they suggest that Indian IT professionals and outsourcing companies could face more challenges in the future, as U.S. companies may hire fewer workers from countries like India.
