Traveling to Nepal and Bhutan? Aadhaar not accepted, Keep THESE IDs

Known for their captivating tourist destinations, Bhutan and Nepal remain popular choices for Indian tourists.

While international travel typically requires passports and visas, Indians enjoy a special privilege when visiting these neighboring countries – no visa or passport is needed.

However, it’s essential to note that Aadhaar, a crucial identity document in India, isn’t recognized in Nepal and Bhutan.

Accepted IDs for Travel to Bhutan and Nepal

In 2017, India’s Home Ministry clarified that Aadhaar is not considered a valid document for entry into Nepal and Bhutan.

  1. Voter ID Card
  2. Driving License
  3. Ration Card
  4. PAN Card

Indian citizens above 15 years of age can present the above documents.

For children accompanying adults, who may not have a Voter ID or PAN card:

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. School ID Card

Above documents are only accepted.

A recent incident at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport underscores the importance of adhering to the accepted ID norms.

An elderly woman was apprehended by Sahar police as she attempted to travel to Nepal using an Indian Aadhaar card despite being a Nepali citizen.
