What is Bharat Stage?
Bharat Stage was introduced to monitor air pollution from engines and was implemented by the Ministry of Forest and Environment and Climate Change.
Bharat Stage emission standards follow European norms.
Reports indicate that after these standards were implemented, there was a noticeable decrease in the sulfur content, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and particulate matter in fuel.
The BS4 standard for petrol engines emits 1.0 g/km of carbon monoxide, 0.18 g/km of hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides, along with 0.025 g/km of respirable suspended particulate matter.
The BS standard evaluates the pollution generated by vehicles, helping the government assess the level of pollution produced by exhaust emissions.
