In today’s digital age, many people rely on multiple SIM cards for different plans or providers.
Mobile phones have become an essential part of daily life, with many users opting for dual-SIM phones.
However, there are still a significant number of users who rely on 2G services. To address the needs of these users, the government is planning to make major announcements.
Telecom companies may soon be required to provide only Voice + SMS packs for certain customers.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is expected to issue guidelines on this matter shortly.
Interestingly, many users with dual SIM phones only actively use one SIM card, while the other is often left idle or used for minimal services like voice and SMS.
According to the regulator, mobile numbers are considered government property and are leased to telecom companies for a specific period.
Relief from Expensive Recharge Packs
Currently, users of 2G services or dual SIM cards face a challenge. Telecom companies typically bundle Voice + SMS packs with data plans, forcing users to pay for expensive packs even if they only use voice and SMS on their second SIM.
This has led to unnecessary expenses for customers. TRAI is working on new guidelines to address this issue and make recharge packs more affordable.
India reportedly has about 30 crore 2G customers, and the high cost of current recharge packs is a significant concern.
By introducing separate Voice + SMS packs, TRAI aims to ease the financial burden on these users.
