A major update has emerged regarding FASTag and toll plazas. FASTag was introduced to reduce congestion at toll plazas, but issues like insufficient balance or lack of recharge often led to queues.
To address this, NHAI had earlier implemented a 70-minute recharge window.
Now, taking another step forward, NHAI is planning to link FASTag with bank accounts to completely eliminate waiting lines at toll plazas.
How Will Traffic Jams Be Reduced?
NHAI is working on a new plan to free commuters from traffic jams. The initiative involves linking FASTag, smart number plates, and bank accounts.
Discussions with banks are ongoing to integrate High-Security Registration Certificates (HSRC) with bank accounts, ensuring a seamless toll payment system without stopping at toll plazas.
Auto Debit System to Be Implemented
A new auto debit system is expected to be introduced at toll plazas soon. Once implemented, vehicle number plates and FASTag accounts will be linked to banks.
When a vehicle reaches a toll plaza, its number plate will be scanned, and the toll amount will be automatically deducted from the FASTag account, eliminating the need to stop.
With this system, toll plaza movement will be smooth and free-flowing. The government is also advancing towards MLFF (Multi-Lane Free Flow) technology before rolling out satellite toll systems.
To ensure data security in the Global Navigation Satellite System, global tenders have been invited.
Implementation to Begin in a Month
In the first phase, the updated system will be introduced on national highways with four or more lanes.
Currently, discussions with various stakeholders, including banks, are in progress. Talks are at an advanced stage, and the system is expected to be implemented within a month.
