During the presentation of the national budget in Parliament on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made several significant announcements benefiting people from all walks of life.
One of the announcements made by the Finance Minister was regarding gig workers.
The budget included provisions for registering gig workers on the e-shram portal.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned in her budget speech that around 1 crore gig workers will directly benefit from the registration facility on the e-shram portal.
Gig workers will benefit
Gig workers include shop assistants, auto drivers, delivery personnel from Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart, and others, as well as puncture repairers, shepherds, dairy owners, cattle farmers, and paper hawkers.
These workers take up temporary jobs and move to better opportunities when they arise.
For instance, people working with apps like Swiggy, Zomato, and Uber are considered gig workers.
These individuals can now apply for e-shram cards. Following the budget announcement about registration on the e-shram portal, a key question remains: how can workers register?
