If you’re planning a trip to Sri Lanka, there’s good news!
The Sri Lankan government has announced visa-free entry for Indian citizens until October 31, 2024.
This decision is part of a broader initiative where Sri Lanka is offering visa-free travel to citizens of 35 countries for six months, starting from October 1, 2024.
Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Entry
Alongside India, this new policy includes major countries like the UK, US, China, and several European nations.
According to Harin Fernando, an advisor to Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry, this policy aims to boost tourism by making it easier for tourists to visit.
Countries like Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, and several others are also part of this initiative.
Tourism Boost and Previous Visa Policies
This move comes after a previous controversy regarding increased visa fees for on-arrival visas in Sri Lanka.
However, citizens from India, China, Russia, Japan, and a few other countries were already enjoying visa-free travel.
The new policy extends this benefit to more nations, aiming to attract a larger number of tourists to the island nation.
A Strategic Move to Boost Tourism
This decision follows previous discussions around increasing visa fees on arrival in Sri Lanka, which sparked some controversy.
However, this new policy aims to enhance tourism by making travel easier for citizens from various countries, including those who were already receiving free visa facilities like India, China, and Russia.
