This new policy, approved by the Cabinet, will start on 1st October 2024.

Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Travel

According to Harin Fernando, an advisor to Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry, this visa-free policy will last for six months.

Besides India, citizens from the UK, China, the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia, and many other countries are eligible for visa-free travel to Sri Lanka.

Other countries on the list include Malaysia, Japan, France, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Sweden, South Korea, Qatar, and New Zealand, among others.

Promoting Tourism in Sri Lanka

Previously, there was some controversy regarding an increase in visa fees on arrival in Sri Lanka.

However, tourists from countries like India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia were already enjoying a visa-free facility.

This new initiative by the Sri Lankan government aims to further boost tourism and attract more foreign visitors to the country.
