If you have a savings account in a post office, you usually need to visit the post office every three years to update your KYC (Know Your Customer) details.
This involves submitting documents for your identity and address. However, India Post is about to make this process much easier by allowing you to complete your KYC from home, without needing to visit the post office.
Online KYC and Aadhaar Authentication
India Post is launching this new online KYC process in Karnataka, benefiting nearly 1.9 crore postal account holders in the state.
According to Karnataka’s Chief Postmaster General, Rajendra S Kumar, account holders will no longer need to physically visit the post office or submit original documents for KYC.
Instead, the process will be completed using Aadhaar authentication online, from the comfort of your home.
No More Fingerprint Verification
Currently, post office savings account holders must go to the post office every three years for biometric fingerprint verification as part of the KYC process. This will no longer be required.
Instead, Karnataka’s postal department is introducing a new feature in their mobile app, allowing account holders to complete the process from their smartphones.
Uploading Documents and Aadhaar Authentication
Before completing the fingerprint verification via the mobile app, account holders will need to log in to the India Post website (indiapost.gov.in) and upload their KYC documents.
The big advantage of this change is that you can now open a post office account without needing to carry original documents.
Your identity will be verified using Aadhaar, allowing you to easily manage your account online.
