Severe Cold and Fog Across Many States (See Details)

Many states in the country are experiencing severe cold, which is causing difficulties for people. The combination of thick fog and intense cold has made conditions worse.

The Meteorological Department has reported that a new western disturbance is becoming active, which may lead to changes in the weather.

As a result, rain is expected in about 10 states, including Delhi-NCR, and some states may even experience snowfall.

In North India, the cold winds are becoming stronger due to ongoing snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.

This will lead to even colder conditions in states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh,

and Delhi, with rain and strong winds. In South India, light rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.

Weather Warnings and Effects

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about dense fog and cold waves in many areas.

These conditions could disrupt travel and daily life. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. The changing weather is expected to worsen the cold conditions further.

Rain and Snowfall in North India

The cold wave in North India has intensified because of ongoing snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.

The snowfall in Himachal Pradesh is expected to continue for the next three days. Additionally, rain

and thunderstorms are forecasted for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, with lightning expected in some areas like Haryana and Rajasthan.

Weather Conditions in Delhi-NCR

Delhi experienced sunny weather on Monday, giving a brief warm feeling for the second day in a row. However, rain

and thunderstorms are expected in the coming days, which will cause temperatures to drop. The IMD reports that Delhi may experience a strong winter chill again soon.

There may also be mist and light fog in the evening and night on January 21, 2025.

The maximum temperature is expected to be around 25°C, with the minimum at 11°C. Rain with thunder is expected on January 22 and 23.

Western Disturbance and Cyclonic Circulation

The weather changes in North India are caused by a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation.

The western disturbance, active in northern Pakistan and the lower troposphere, will affect India.

Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is forming over western Rajasthan, which could bring heavy rain and snowfall to the western Himalayan region between January 21 and 23.

Rain in South India

In South India, light to moderate rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Lakshadweep until January 23.

The rain is caused by an active cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and Sri Lanka. North-easterly winds will also impact the weather in this area.

Dense Fog and Cold Days Ahead

Dense fog is expected in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan on January 23 and 24.

Fog warnings have also been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Odisha,

and West Bengal in the mornings and evenings. Some parts of Himachal Pradesh may continue to experience cold day conditions.

Fishermen’s Advisory

The IMD has advised fishermen to stay away from the sea. A warning has been issued for the Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar,

and Bay of Bengal on January 21 and 22. Fishermen are urged to limit their activities in these areas during this period.
