Relief for Pensioners: Life Certificate Submission Starts Early

Starting October 1, senior pensioners aged 80 and above can submit their life certificates, a process that allows them to receive their pensions on time. For other pensioners, the submission period begins on November 1.

What is a Life Certificate?

Jeevan Pramaan, or the life certificate, is a digital certificate created using an Aadhaar card and biometric verification (fingerprint or eye scanning).

This initiative streamlines the process for pensioners, eliminating the need to visit the pension department annually to prove their existence.

The certificate can be submitted online and is recognized under the Information Technology Act, making it a convenient option for elderly pensioners.

Dates for Life Certificate Submission

Senior Pensioners (80 years and above): Can submit their life certificate starting October 1, 2024.

Other Pensioners: Submission begins on November 1, 2024.

Last Date for Submission: Typically, the last date for submitting life certificates is November 30. The government may extend this deadline if necessary.

Consequences of Late Submission

Failure to submit the life certificate by the November 30 deadline will result in the suspension of pensions starting December.

Once the life certificate is submitted, the full pension and any outstanding amounts will be credited in the next payment cycle, provided it is updated in the pension system.

If a life certificate is not submitted for three years or more, pensioners will need approval from the relevant authorities to resume receiving their pensions.

This initiative aims to make the pension process easier and more efficient for elderly pensioners, ensuring they continue to receive their benefits without unnecessary hassle.
