Railways Plans to Add 10,000 Non-AC Coaches

To address the challenges faced by passengers traveling by railways, significant steps have been taken by the Railways Ministry.

A senior railway official announced plans to introduce 10,000 additional non-AC coaches in the upcoming fiscal years (2024-25 and 2025-26).

This initiative aims to meet rising demand and enhance convenience for the common man.

Expansion Plans and Production Targets

According to reports, the Railway Ministry is ramping up production to meet its goals. In the financial year 2024-25,

production targets include 4,485 non-AC coaches, with plans to increase to 5,444 coaches by 2025-26.

Additionally, over 5,300 general coaches are set to be manufactured to significantly boost the railway’s rolling stock capacity.

Introduction of Special Amrit Bharat Coaches

Highlighting the ambitious plans, a senior railway official disclosed that the Indian Railways is set to manufacture 2,605 general bogies this fiscal year.

This includes the innovative Amrit Bharat General Coaches aimed at enhancing passenger amenities.

The plans also encompass 1,470 non-AC sleeper coaches, 323 SLR (sitting-cum-luggage rake) coaches, 32 high-capacity parcel vans, and 55 pantry cars.

Future Goals and Enhancements

Looking ahead to 2025-26, the Indian Railways aims to expand its fleet further with 2,710 general coaches.

This phase of production will continue to feature advanced Amrit Bharat general coaches. Additionally,

targets include 1,910 non-AC sleeper coaches and 514 SLR coaches, all designed to improve passenger comfort and experience.

Addressing Recent Concerns

In response to ongoing demands to increase the number of general and sleeper coaches, recent incidents in general coaches shared on social media have also prompted action.

The railways are committed to improving overall service quality and passenger satisfaction.
