Every year, millions of devotees take part in major religious events like the Mahakumbh Mela.
To address the risks and unexpected situations that may arise during these journeys, fintech company PhonePe has introduced a special insurance plan called “Mahakumbh Mela Suraksha.”
Developed in partnership with ICICI Lombard, this plan aims to provide valuable support and protection to those attending the Mahakumbh Mela.
What is the Maha Kumbh Mela security plan?
The Maha Kumbh Mela Suraksha Insurance Plan is specifically designed to address the needs and potential risks faced by devotees during their pilgrimage.
It offers coverage of up to Rs 50,000, including medical and other benefits, with prices ranging from Rs 59 to Rs 99. The plan is available in two options:
Silver Plan – For devotees traveling by bus or train.
Gold Plan – For devotees traveling by flight.
Validity of the Plan
The Maha Kumbh Mela Suraksha Insurance Plan will be available from 10 January 2025 to 28 February 2025.
Devotees can purchase it through the PhonePe app until 25 February 2025.
The plan offers coverage for various risks during the journey to the Maha Kumbh Mela, including medical emergencies, accidents, travel cancellations, and loss of luggage.
The medical coverage provides up to Rs 50,000 for hospitalization due to illness or injury.
Additionally, under the Personal Accident Cover, if an accident leads to death or disability, the policyholder will receive up to Rs 1 lakh in coverage.
The insurance also covers reimbursement of up to Rs 5,000 if the trip is canceled due to a medical emergency or natural disaster.
If check-in baggage is lost at the airport, a coverage of up to Rs 5,000 is provided, but this benefit is only available to domestic flight passengers.
Additionally, if a connecting flight is missed due to a previous flight delay, the policyholder can get up to Rs 5,000 reimbursed from the ticket cost.
In case of the policyholder’s death during the Maha Kumbh Yatra, expenses of up to Rs 10,000 will be covered for transporting the body back home.
How to Purchase the Plan
You can buy the Maha Kumbh Mela Security Plan via the PhonePe app by following these steps:
- Open the PhonePe app on your mobile.
2. Go to the Insurance section on the homepage.
3. Scroll down and click on the “Let’s go to Maha Kumbh” option.
4. Review the coverage and terms carefully.
5. Choose the plan based on your travel mode—bus, train, or flight.
6. Enter the required details (name, email, family members’ names).
7. Verify all details and complete the payment.
Important Conditions to Note
Please note that pre-existing diseases are not covered under this plan. The policy is valid for individuals aged 1 to 70 years.
The trip’s start and end dates must fall between 10th January and 28th February 2025.
Accidents occurring during training, competitions, professional sports, or adventure activities are excluded from coverage. Once purchased, this plan cannot be canceled.
