If you use FASTag, this update is important for you. Starting today (Monday), significant changes have been introduced for drivers using FASTag at toll plazas.
The Ministry of Road Transport has implemented these new rules to reduce congestion, minimize delays, and ensure faster travel.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has updated FASTag regulations, which are now in effect.
These changes aim to simplify toll collection and ensure a smooth and uninterrupted flow of traffic on highways. Let’s take a look at the key updates in the new rules.
Key Changes in the Rules
As per the new rules set by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), if your FASTag is blacklisted, closed, or inactive, you must follow certain steps before reaching the toll plaza.
In such cases, you need to recharge your FASTag at least 60 minutes before crossing the toll.
Alternatively, you can also complete the recharge within 10 minutes after crossing. If the driver fails to do so, they will be required to pay double the toll amount.
It is important to note that FASTag is mandatory for all vehicles except two-wheelers.
Issues with Low Balance
As per the new rules, vehicles with FASTag that have a low balance or are blacklisted will not be allowed to pass through the toll plaza.
If a driver attempts to cross the toll without enough balance, they may have to pay a fine.
This rule has been introduced to ensure timely FASTag recharges and to maintain smooth traffic flow at toll plazas.
To assist commuters, NHAI has introduced a short grace period, allowing drivers to recharge their FASTag on time when they receive a low balance alert.
This initiative will ensure drivers have enough balance before reaching the toll plaza, reducing the risk of transaction failure and penalties.
NHAI has also addressed the issue of transaction delays. If the payment isn’t completed within 15 minutes after crossing the toll plaza, an additional charge may apply.
This rule is designed to ensure prompt payments and streamline the toll process.
The new FASTag rules are designed to simplify and speed up toll collection, ensuring a smoother travel experience for highway commuters.
