Driving your car often requires paying toll taxes. FASTag has greatly simplified this process for people today.
Tax is automatically deducted using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, allowing quick payment of toll tax in just a few minutes.
Sometimes, the scanning equipment doesn’t read the tag on the vehicle properly, requiring you to move your vehicle back and forth repeatedly in such cases.
This situation causes inconvenience during cashless toll payment and leads to traffic jams near the toll plaza.
NHAI’s new initiative to eliminate traffic jam
NHAI has ordered significant changes in IT systems and toll plaza hardware to address technical issues,
aiming to enhance Fastag transactions for smoother operations.
As per the Times of India,
NHAI will prioritize companies that use equipment certified by the Standardization Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) of the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
This certification is mandatory for RFID readers, antennas, automatic number plate readers, toll lane controllers, and toll plaza servers.
According to the report, NHAI’s new guidelines require “system integrators” to provide an undertaking to IHMCL.
If any issues arise due to toll plaza equipment,
the state agency can suspend the panel and confiscate the bank guarantee immediately.
Efficiency and reliability of FASTag transactions expected to increase
Delays or issues with FASTag reading, even when there’s enough balance in the accounts,
sometimes make vehicles move back and forth at toll plazas to help the scanner read the tag.
Sometimes, this situation requires employees to manually scan FASTags and collect toll using handheld devices.
NHAI’s changes aim to improve FASTag transaction efficiency and reliability, leading to reduced traffic congestion at toll plazas.
