In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, traffic rules are becoming stricter. Starting September 1, 2024, it is mandatory for both bike
and scooter drivers, as well as passengers, to wear helmets. Failing to do so can result in a fine of up to Rs 1035.
This new rule follows a High Court order due to increasing road accidents in the city.
Fines and Helmet Quality Checks
The Visakhapatnam police will enforce this rule by imposing fines of Rs 1035 on those who do not wear helmets.
Additionally, offenders may have their licenses suspended for three months. It is also required that helmets be ISI-marked. Using poor-quality helmets will lead to further penalties.
Other major cities like Delhi and Mumbai already enforce helmet rules strictly for all riders, including pillion passengers.
Important Traffic Rules to Remember
Wear Seat Belts: Thousands of people are fined daily for not wearing seat belts. Always wear your seat belt while driving, and ensure all passengers in your car do the same.
Avoid Mobile Phone Use: Using a mobile phone while driving, whether for talking or texting, is against the law in India
and can lead to serious driving issues. Avoid using your phone while driving to stay safe and avoid penalties.
