People in Uttar Pradesh buying electric vehicles (EVs) can now enjoy the benefit of subsidies as the Transport Department has reopened the subsidy portal.
So far, 1,000 applications have been submitted. However, only those who apply online through the portal will be eligible for the subsidy.
If anyone faces difficulty in applying, the Transport Department suggests it could be due to local network issues, but assures that the portal is functioning properly.
The subsidy is available for one two-wheeler, four-wheeler, e-bus, or goods carrier bus per buyer.
Additionally, aggregators and fleet operators can claim subsidies for up to ten two-wheelers or four-wheelers and five e-buses or e-goods carriers.
It is important to note that people who have already received a subsidy for an EV purchase will not be eligible for this benefit again.
For further assistance, applicants can contact their vehicle dealer or the local RTO-ARTO office.
Government’s Push for EVs and Subsidy Policy
The Uttar Pradesh government has long been encouraging the use of electric vehicles, which is why they introduced an electric vehicle policy.
In July, the government issued an order to provide subsidies for EV buyers.
Under this policy, buyers can receive up to ₹1 lakh as a subsidy for purchasing an electric car and up to ₹50,000 for an electric two-wheeler.
The EV policy, originally implemented in October 2022, is expected to remain in effect until 2027.
This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to promote cleaner transportation options in the state.
