From January 1, 2025, new regulations for UPI 123Pay payments will be implemented.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced an increase in the transaction limit for users of this service.
Previously, the maximum limit for a single transaction was Rs 5,000. With the new rules, this limit will be doubled to Rs 10,000.
This update is expected to make UPI 123Pay transactions more convenient, especially for users in areas with limited internet connectivity.
What is UPI 123Pay and How Does It Work?
UPI 123Pay enables users to make payments without the need for internet access, making it especially useful for feature phone users. The service supports four different ways to complete transactions:
IVR numbers
Missed calls
OEM-embedded apps
Sound-based technology
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has provided specific IVR numbers—080-45163666, 080-45163581, and 6366200200—for feature phone users.
By calling these numbers, users can verify their UPI ID, follow voice instructions, and complete payments. This service benefits around 4 crore feature phone users across India.
Growing Impact of UPI 123Pay
Launched in March 2022, UPI 123Pay has played a significant role in promoting UPI payments in small towns and rural areas.
Its success has encouraged RBI to increase the transaction limit to Rs 10,000.
The UPI system is not only transforming digital payments in India but has also expanded to other countries, including Sri Lanka.
With strong government support, UPI continues to gain popularity both nationally and internationally, helping millions access digital payment solutions.
