If you have a savings account in the post office, there is good news for you.

India Post has started a new personalized checkbook service for Post Office Savings Account (POSA) holders.

Under this new service, customers will receive checkbooks with their name, account number, and IFSC code already printed on them.

The biggest benefit is that the checkbook will be delivered directly to your home.

This new facility started from May 8, 2026, and is aimed at giving post office customers a more modern banking experience.

No More Repeated Visits to the Post Office

Earlier, post office checkbooks came without the customer’s name or account details printed on them.

This often created confusion and inconvenience while using the checkbook.

Now, with the new personalized checkbook service, important details will already be printed.

This will make transactions easier, safer, and more convenient for customers.

Another major relief is that people will no longer need to visit the post office again and again to collect their checkbooks.

The personalized checkbook will be sent directly to the customer’s registered address.

How to Apply for the Personalized Checkbook

Customers who want this new checkbook service will need to apply through the post office for now.

India Post has also said that the service will soon be available through internet banking and mobile banking platforms.

At the same time, the old instant checkbook service will continue. Customers can choose between:

Instant checkbook available at post office counters

Personalized checkbook delivered to home

This means customers can select the option that suits them best.

Important Rules Customers Should Know

There are a few conditions for getting a personalized checkbook:

Your mobile number must be linked with the account

The account should maintain a minimum balance of ₹500

A checkbook fee of ₹20 plus GST will be charged

Frozen or dormant accounts will not be eligible

India Post has also clarified that if the checkbook cannot be delivered, it will be returned to the post office and kept there for 45 days.

After that, the undelivered checkbook will be marked as spoiled in the system.
