Managing Aadhaar information for several family members can often be difficult. People may need to carry multiple documents or switch between different digital records.
The new Aadhaar app aims to make this easier by allowing users to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single smartphone.
According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), anyone with a valid Aadhaar number can create up to five profiles on the Aadhaar app.
The feature is designed around the idea of “one family, one app.”
What Is the New Aadhaar App?
The Aadhaar app is the official mobile application developed and managed by UIDAI. It is available for both Android and iOS devices and provides several Aadhaar-related services through a smartphone.
To register on the app, users need to enter their Aadhaar number, select the correct SIM card, complete face authentication and create a 6-digit PIN to secure access to the app.
Manage Up to 5 Aadhaar Profiles on One Smartphone
One of the main features of the new Aadhaar app is the ability to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device.
This can be especially useful for families where multiple members need to view or digitally display their Aadhaar information.
UIDAI has confirmed that users can create up to five profiles on the Aadhaar app.
How to Add a Minor’s Aadhaar Profile
The app also allows minors to add their Aadhaar profiles under certain conditions.
According to UIDAI, a minor can be added if the link with the guardian was established through biometric authentication during Aadhaar enrollment.
The minor first enters their Aadhaar number, after which the guardian completes face authentication.
If the minor has already completed the mandatory biometric update, they can complete the face authentication themselves to add their Aadhaar profile.
What Other Services Are Available?
The Aadhaar app provides several Aadhaar-related services. These include:
Managing Aadhaar profiles
Updating the registered mobile number and address
Locking and unlocking Aadhaar biometrics
Viewing authentication history
Downloading e-Aadhaar
Sharing contact cards
Tracking requests
Selectively sharing Aadhaar-verified credentials
The app also allows Aadhaar holders to securely share their identity information with an offline verification agency. This can be done only with the Aadhaar holder’s own free will and consent.
How Does the App Keep Aadhaar Data Secure?
The Aadhaar app requires users to complete authentication during registration. Users must also create a six-digit PIN to access the app.
It also provides biometric lock and unlock options. These features allow Aadhaar holders to control when their Aadhaar biometrics can be used.
Not All Aadhaar Details Can Be Updated Through the App
Although the app provides many services, users cannot currently update every Aadhaar detail through it.
UIDAI says that the app does not currently allow users to update their name, gender, email address or date of birth. Users also cannot update their photo, fingerprint or iris information through the app.
For these updates, users need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrollment and Update Center.
What Does This Mean for Families?
The option to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on one smartphone can make digital Aadhaar services more convenient for families.
Instead of using separate phones for different Aadhaar profiles, eligible family members can use a single device to access their digital identity information.
This feature is part of UIDAI’s broader effort to make Aadhaar services more digital, convenient and secure, while reducing the need to carry physical documents.
