Mumbai Train Services will face disruptions from October 14 to 16 as Central Railway carries out major infrastructure work near Kasara.
The planned traffic and power blocks will affect suburban locals and several long-distance trains, with cancellations, revised departure times, route diversions and delays expected during the three-day period.
The work is part of the Asangaon-Kasara third-line project, which aims to improve railway capacity between Kasara and Kalyan.
Passengers travelling between Mumbai, Kasara, Igatpuri and other connected destinations should check their train schedules before leaving for the station.
Mumbai Train Services Affected Between October 14 and 16
Suburban train services between Asangaon and Kasara will remain unavailable during the respective block periods.
Several local trains running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kasara will operate with changes to their usual schedules.
Four CSMT-Kasara locals scheduled to depart at 1:10 pm, 2:17 pm, 2:46 pm and 4:50 pm will terminate at Asangaon instead of Kasara.
In the opposite direction, four services scheduled to leave Kasara at 3:35 pm, 4:16 pm, 5:02 pm and 6:17 pm will instead originate from Asangaon at revised times.
These changes mean commuters who usually travel to or from Kasara may need to arrange alternative transport for the affected portion of their journey.
Passengers should also check the revised first and last local train timings on the route.
Express Trains Face Cancellations and Rescheduling
The infrastructure work will also affect long-distance Mail and Express services.
Some trains will be rescheduled, while others will run on diverted routes or be held at intermediate stations to manage railway traffic during the block.
The CSMT-Howrah Duronto Express scheduled for October 15 will depart later than its original timetable.
Instead of leaving at 5:15 pm on October 15, it is scheduled to depart at 12:20 am on October 16.
Several other services departing from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and CSMT will also operate at revised times on October 14 and 15.
Passengers travelling on these dates should confirm the updated departure time rather than rely solely on their original booking schedule.
Train Route Diversions and Delays to Watch
Central Railway will divert five trains via the Kalyan-Karjat-Pune-Manmad route during the block period.
Some services will also be regulated at stations along the route, meaning trains may be held temporarily before continuing their journeys.
Among the affected services, the Gorakhpur-LTT Express is scheduled to be held at Igatpuri on October 14 from 6:10 pm to 7:15 pm.
The Ayodhya Cantt-LTT Tulsi Express will face a similar regulation at Igatpuri on October 15, while the Subedarganj-LTT Amrit Bharat Express will be regulated there on October 16.
The Gomti Nagar-CSMT Pushpak Express is also expected to be regulated at Igatpuri between 6:30 pm and 7:25 pm on all three days.
Meanwhile, the Howrah-CSMT Gitanjali Express will face a one-hour regulation in the Bhusaval division during the same period.
Central Railway has warned that several other trains could experience delays of around 15 to 25 minutes.
The affected services include the Sainagar Shirdi-CSMT Vande Bharat Express, CSMT-Manmad Panchavati Express, Nanded-CSMT Tapovan Express, CSMT-Nagpur Duronto Express and other Mail and Express trains.
The exact disruption will vary by service and date.
Why Central Railway Is Carrying Out the Work
The disruptions are linked to a series of infrastructure activities for the Asangaon-Kasara third-line project.
The programme includes pre-non-interlocking, non-interlocking and post-non-interlocking work, along with the extension of the Up Yard line towards Igatpuri.
The broader work is scheduled across October 7 to 18.
The additional railway line is intended to improve train-handling capacity and provide greater operational flexibility between Kasara and Kalyan.
Separating suburban and long-distance train movements more effectively could help railway operations run more smoothly once the wider project is completed and commissioned.
For now, passengers should verify train numbers, departure times and route changes through official railway updates before travelling.
Central Railway has indicated that further information about blocks planned for October 17 and 18 will be announced separately.
