When global conflicts disrupt supply chains, the impact is felt far beyond borders—even in everyday cooking at home.

Maharashtra Pushes PNG as LPG Supply Tightens

In Maharashtra, the government has taken quick steps to deal with fuel supply disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.

With LPG availability under pressure, the state is now promoting piped natural gas (PNG) as a reliable alternative for households.

A new directive from the Food and Civil Supplies Department asks city gas companies to expand PNG connections and improve customer support across the state.

Companies have been told to run 24/7 helplines, increase helpdesks, and make it easier for people to apply for connections.

The goal is simple: ensure people can switch to PNG without delays or confusion.

Easier Applications, Faster Connections

To speed things up, the government is encouraging both housing societies and individual households to apply for PNG connections.

Applications can be submitted either as a group or individually, helping expand pipeline access faster, especially in residential areas.

Gas companies have also been asked to open more local centres at the ward level.

Both online and offline application systems must be made widely available and properly advertised so more people can access them.

Strong Monitoring to Keep Work on Track

The plan doesn’t stop at expansion—it also focuses on strict monitoring.

City gas distribution companies must appoint district-level nodal officers to track progress.

These officers will oversee pipeline expansion and new connections in their areas.

Weekly progress reports will be submitted and reviewed at the state level to ensure everything stays on schedule.

Local authorities, including municipal corporations and district supply offices, will also set up help centres to guide residents through the process.

A Temporary Fix for a Global Problem

These measures will stay in place until the global situation stabilises and fuel supplies improve.

For now, the focus is on keeping kitchens running without interruption.

By pushing PNG and strengthening support systems, Maharashtra is trying to reduce the impact of a global crisis on everyday life.
