The Government of India has given a major benefit to government employees by enhancing their travel options under the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme.
Employees can now travel on luxury trains like Vande Bharat and Humsafar, as well as private trains like Tejas.
This change aims to improve their travel experience and has been implemented after the Department of Personnel
and Training (DoPT) received numerous suggestions to include more premium trains in the scheme.
New Trains Added to the LTC Scheme
Previously, government employees could only travel under LTC on select trains like Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, and Duronto Express.
However, with the latest DoPT order, they are now eligible to travel on Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express, and Humsafar Express based on their eligibility criteria.
What is Leave Travel Concession (LTC)?
LTC, or Leave Travel Concession, is a facility provided by the Central Government for its employees to travel during holidays.
Under this scheme, the government reimburses a part of the travel expenses for central government employees.
It aims to encourage employees to travel and spend quality time with their families during vacations.
Types of LTC
There are two types of LTC available:
Hometown LTC: This allows employees to travel to their hometown with their family twice within a four-year block.
All India LTC: This permits employees to travel to any part of the country.
Under LTC, employees can claim reimbursement for travel expenses incurred via rail, road, or air. However, the scheme does not cover costs related to hotels, food, or sightseeing.
