Kolkata Metro has announced additional metro services on May 24, 2026, to help students appearing for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
The decision was taken to manage the expected rush of candidates and passengers on exam day.
The announcement was shared through an official post by Kolkata Metro on X.
Extra metro trains will run on both the Blue Line and Green Line on Sunday morning.
More Blue Line Services From Early Morning
Kolkata Metro has increased the number of Blue Line services from 152 to 160 for the exam day.
To help UPSC aspirants reach their centres on time, metro services will start much earlier than usual.
The first trains on the Blue Line will begin at 7 am instead of the normal Sunday timing of 9 am.
Early morning trains will operate on routes including:
Dakshineswar to Shahid Khudiram
Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Dakshineswar
Noapara to Shahid Khudiram
Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar
Between 7 am and 9 am, metro services will run at 30-minute intervals. After 9 am, the regular Sunday timetable will continue.
Green Line Also Gets Additional Trains
The Green Line will also see increased operations on May 24.
A total of 116 services will run instead of the usual 108 trains.
The first metro services from:
Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V
Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah
will also start at 7 am instead of 9 am.
Like the Blue Line, Green Line trains will operate every 30 minutes between 7 am and 9 am before returning to the regular Sunday schedule.
No Changes in Last Metro Timings
Kolkata Metro has clarified that the last train timings on both the Blue Line and Green Line will remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, normal Sunday services will continue on the Yellow Line.
However, there will be no metro operations on the Orange Line and Purple Line on Sunday, according to the official schedule released by the metro authority.
The special arrangements are expected to make travel easier and smoother for thousands of UPSC candidates appearing for one of India’s most competitive examinations.
