Apple is gearing up to launch its next lineup of iPhones this September, and leading the excitement is the iPhone 17 Air.
Rumoured to be the thinnest iPhone ever, it’s already grabbing attention with leaks pointing to a bold new design, powerful hardware,
and smart compromises for users who want a sleek yet capable device. Inspired by the ultra-thin 2024 iPad Pro, this model may signal a big change in Apple’s design approach.
Design, Display, and Build
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be just 5.5mm thick – significantly slimmer than the iPhone 16 Pro, which is 8.25mm.
Some sources, like Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, say it could be around 2mm thinner than its predecessor.
Analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu estimate its final thickness to be between 5mm and 6.25mm.
Apple seems ready to bring its ultra-slim design from the iPad Pro (5.1mm thick) to the iPhone.
The phone will likely use a metal and glass body, possibly a mix of titanium and aluminium, while keeping the weight around 145 grams, similar to the iPhone 13 mini.
On the front, we may see a 6.6-inch OLED display, which sits between the sizes of the regular iPhone 17 and the Pro Max.
This screen is likely to have better power efficiency, a 120Hz refresh rate, and high brightness, though it may not support always-on display due to the lack of adaptive refresh down to 1Hz.
Performance, Camera, and Battery
Inside, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to pack Apple’s upcoming A19 chip along with 12GB of RAM—the same as the Pro version.
This means even with its slim form, the phone will still offer top-level performance. However, battery life might take a hit due to the smaller size.
Apple may also change things on the camera front. The iPhone 17 Air could have just one 48MP rear camera, like current iPhones, in a horizontal camera bar design.
This would save space while still offering high-quality photos. On the front, a new 24MP selfie camera is expected, doubling the resolution of current models for sharper selfies and better video calls.
Battery capacity is rumoured to be around 2,800mAh, which is less than 3,000mAh.
However, a new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26 could help the phone last through the day, much like older iPhone models with smaller batteries.
Expected Price and Launch Date
Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Air will be priced from $899 in the US (around ₹75,000 to ₹80,000), and could launch in India for about ₹90,000, possibly replacing the iPhone 16 Plus in the lineup.
A slight price hike is expected across all iPhone 17 models, likely due to rising component costs. Apple hopes the Air’s fresh design and top-tier features will justify the price.
The official launch is expected in September 2025, likely in the second week. Pre-orders and availability will follow soon after, as per Apple’s usual schedule.
With its ultra-slim body, powerful chip, and stylish new look, the iPhone 17 Air could be one of Apple’s most exciting releases in years.
