Instagram expands Reels Time Limit to 3 Minutes: Check Details

Instagram has gifted creators the ability to upload longer reels. Reels up to 3 minutes can now be uploaded on Instagram.

Additionally, the company is set to change the user’s profile grid. The profile grid will now feature rectangular boxes instead of squares.

In the near future, Instagram plans to introduce a new section to show reels liked by friends. Let’s dive into the full details.

Now users will be able to upload longer reels

Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared a video announcing the decision to extend the reel duration to 3 minutes.

Previously, reels were limited to 90 seconds as Instagram focused on short videos.

Mosseri mentioned that many creators expressed that 90 seconds was too short, leading to the decision to increase the duration.

He hopes this change will help users share their stories more effectively. Before Instagram, YouTube also extended its shorts video duration to 3 minutes.

Profile grid will display content in rectangle boxes

Instagram will now display content in rectangular boxes instead of squares on the profile grid.

Mosseri explained that while some users prefer squares, square photos have been part of Instagram’s tradition.

However, most content today is in a vertical format, and cropping it isn’t ideal. This feature is being gradually rolled out to users.

New tab for reels liked by friends

Instagram is introducing a new feature: a tab in the Reels feed that will display videos liked or commented on by your friends.

This feature is similar to the old activity feed, where users could see the videos their friends had liked.
