Indigo Airlines plans to hire 1,000 Women Pilots by Next Year

IndiGo Airline aims to boost opportunities for women in its workforce by hiring more female pilots.

The airline plans to raise the number of women pilots to over 1,000 within a year. Currently, IndiGo has more than 800 women pilots, making up about 14% of its total pilot population.

This is higher than the global average of 7 to 9 percent, and the company aims to increase this percentage further.

The goal is to be achieved by next year

Sukhjit S. Pasricha, Chief Human Resource Manager at IndiGo, India’s largest airline, announced on Thursday that the airline is committed to increasing opportunities for women.

The new goal is to have over 1,000 women pilots by next year, which will further enhance workforce diversity. Additionally, the airline plans to expand its fleet and network.

There will be opportunities in both engineering and flying staff

Sukhjeet S Pasricha announced that IndiGo plans to make significant changes to its engineering and flying staff, with a focus on increasing female representation.

The number of women in the engineering team has already risen by about 30 percent.

IndiGo currently has the highest number of 800 women pilots in the country and the highest global average of female pilots.

The goal is to have 1,000 women pilots by August 2025. IndiGo has a total of 5,000 pilots and operates about 2,000 flights daily.

On the 77th anniversary of independence, 77 women pilots were hired

On Wednesday, IndiGo hired 77 women pilots who will operate the company’s Airbus and ATR planes.

This hiring coincides with the 77th anniversary of independence. As of March 2024, the airline employed 36,860 people, including 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew members.

By the end of the last financial year, there were 713 women pilots at IndiGo, making up 44% of the workforce.

Additionally, the airline has also employed individuals from the LGBTQ community.
