Forgetting a phone, wallet, bag, or other valuables on a train is more common than you might think. Many passengers realize their belongings are missing only after getting off the train.

But there is good news. According to Indian Railways, lost items can often be recovered if passengers report them quickly.

If you leave something behind, immediately call the railway helpline number 139 or inform the nearest ticket inspector, station master, or railway official.

Reporting the issue early greatly improves your chances of getting your belongings back.

Passenger Gets Mobile Phone Back on Vande Bharat Express

On June 28, a passenger traveling on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Amritsar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 26406) accidentally left his mobile phone in coach C5.

After receiving the complaint, railway staff searched the coach and found the phone. Using the passenger’s PNR details, officials confirmed his identity and safely handed the phone over to his brother at Amritsar railway station.

The passenger later thanked the railway staff for their quick and honest action.

Wallets Returned to Passengers at Jammu Tawi Station

In another case on the same day, two passengers traveling on Train No. 22401 forgot their wallets in coach B12 after getting off at Jammu Tawi station.

The passengers immediately informed railway officials. The staff quickly located the wallets and kept them safe. After verifying the owners’ identities at the ticket inspector’s office, the wallets were returned to them.

The passengers praised the railway staff for their support and honesty.

Indian Railways Shares Important Advice

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said that passenger safety and the security of their belongings are among the top priorities of Indian Railways.

He also advised passengers to carefully check under their seats, luggage racks, and surrounding areas before leaving the train. Items such as phones, wallets, laptops, chargers, and bags are often forgotten.

If you realize that you have left something on the train, don’t panic. Contact the railway helpline at 139 or inform the nearest railway official immediately. Quick reporting can make all the difference in getting your lost belongings back.
