Millions of people travel by train daily in India. While train journeys are convenient and affordable, many passengers are unaware of certain railway rules that can make travel even easier.
One such rule allows passengers to pause their journey for up to 2 days and resume travel on the same ticket.
What is the Break Journey Rule?
If you book a train ticket for more than 1,000 km, you can pause your journey for up to 2 days after traveling at least 500 km.
For tickets between 500 km and 1,000 km, you can take a break of up to 2 days after traveling at least 500 km.
You can resume travel from the same station after the break without needing a new ticket.
This facility is not available in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Jan Shatabdi Express trains.
How Does This Rule Work?
✅ If you travel 600 km on a single journey ticket, you can pause your journey after 500 km for up to 2 days and continue on the same ticket.
❌ If your journey is 800 km, but you want to stop after 423 km, break journey is not allowed as you haven’t completed 500 km.
How to Avail the Break Journey Facility?
1️⃣ Get off at any station after completing at least 500 km of your journey.
2️⃣ Get approval from the station master or ticket collector at that station.
3️⃣ Resume your journey from the same station within 2 days.
4️⃣ Deposit the ticket at your final destination.
This lesser-known railway rule can be very helpful, especially for long-distance travelers who need a short break during their journey.
Now, you can plan your train travel better with this handy rule!
