Important ATM Transaction Changes for SBI Customers

If you have a savings account with the State Bank of India (SBI), there are some new ATM rules you need to know.

These rules started on February 1, 2025, and are designed to promote digital banking and apply the same fee structure for everyone, whether they live in metro or non-metro areas.

The changes apply to both financial transactions (like cash withdrawals) and non-financial transactions (like balance checks) at SBI and other bank ATMs.

Free Transactions Per Month

SBI ATMs: 5 free transactions per month.

Other bank ATMs: 10 free transactions per month.

These limits apply to all SBI savings account holders, no matter your monthly balance or location.

New Rules Based on Monthly Balance

If you maintain a higher Average Monthly Balance (AMB), you get additional benefits:

AMB of ₹25,000 to ₹50,000: 5 free transactions at other bank ATMs.

AMB of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh: 5 free transactions at other bank ATMs.

AMB above ₹1 lakh: Unlimited free transactions at both SBI and other bank ATMs.

These changes are meant to make ATM usage simpler and fair for everyone.

Charges After Free Transactions

Once you go over your free transaction limit:

SBI ATMs: ₹15 + GST per transaction.

Other bank ATMs: ₹21 + GST per transaction.

These charges are the same for metro and non-metro areas.

Non-Financial Transactions

At SBI ATMs: Free and unlimited (e.g., balance check, mini statement).

At other bank ATMs: ₹10 + GST per transaction.

You can also make religious donations at SBI ATMs for free. This option isn’t available at other bank ATMs.

Failed Transaction Penalty: If a transaction fails because of insufficient balance, SBI will charge ₹20 + GST.

Upcoming Change from May 1, 2025

From May 1, 2025, SBI will increase the charge for ATM withdrawals beyond the free limit to ₹23 per transaction (up from ₹21).

These updates are part of SBI’s plan to make ATM use more standardized and encourage customers to shift toward digital banking.
