IMD Weather Update for Tuesday, September 22, warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of India.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rain at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, while heavy rainfall is expected in several other states.
The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in various regions. Coastal areas and fishermen have been advised to remain cautious because of rough sea conditions and strong winds.
IMD Weather Update for Heavy Rainfall
According to the September 22 weather bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Heavy rain in coastal and low-lying areas could increase the risk of waterlogging and local flooding.
Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra and Telangana.
IMD Weather Update Warns of Thunderstorms
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by strong gusty winds and lightning in several states and Union Territories. Winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph are possible in parts of the Andaman
and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Telangana.
Strong surface winds are also possible at isolated places in Rayalaseema and Telangana.
Thunderstorms with winds of 30 to 40 kmph are possible at isolated places in Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Lightning Alert Issued Across Several Regions
The weather department has also issued isolated thunderstorm and lightning warnings for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Western Madhya Pradesh is also expected to experience isolated thunderstorms and lightning. People in areas under these alerts should remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposed locations.
IMD Issues Sea Weather Warning
The IMD has issued a separate warning for sea and coastal areas because of strong winds and rough weather conditions. Along the northern Somalia coast and the southwest Arabian Sea, winds of 45 to 55 kmph may gust up to 65 kmph.
Similar wind conditions are expected over the east-central Bay of Bengal, parts of the west-central Bay of Bengal adjoining the north Bay of Bengal, and the south Bay of Bengal along the southern Sri Lanka coast.
Winds of 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, are also expected along the south Myanmar coast, the Andaman Sea, parts of the south and central Bay of Bengal and the Gulf of Mannar.
Fishermen and people living in coastal areas should follow local weather warnings and advisories issued by the authorities while the adverse conditions persist.
